I allow students to come see me for extra help, but each visit slightly lowers their grade in my class. They used to be able to get help with impunity and they would harass me constantly. The new rule forces them to consider whether or not they really need help, and it doesn't penalize the students who are capable of learning the material without my special attention.
Even with the new policy, I get a lot of pointless visits from students. Most of them want me to tell them what information will be covered on an upcoming test. I rarely know what information will be on the tests because I tend to make them the night before I give them. This keeps me from creating tests that would give an unfair advantage to the students who came for extra help, since I tailor them to avoid anything explicitly covered in help sessions.

Where can one discover the likes of the eternal beaver?
You are going to get fired soon.
Can you charge students percentage points to get additional help? I get the feeling that you're somehow above the law, which leads me to believe one of two things: you are either wildly attractive in a Humbert Humbert sort of way or so eccentric that people are scared to question you in an Owen Meany sort of way. Perhaps you're a combination. That'd be fantastic.
I think you are a hoot. I seldom leave yr blog without a grin.
Tell me your secret. I have lots of students who should be coming to my office hourse but don't.
ur a douchebag
I've been wondering about this topic lately. Am I expected to be a personal tutor to any student just because he/she wants me to be?
